LUDO

Brindle Cutie Seeking Forever Home

Handsome Ludo was adopted but sadly due to a change in his current owners circumstances they have had to make the heartbreaking decision to return Ludo to the rescue.

Ludo is approximately 1 and a half and is a lovely boy who needs a forever home.

His heartbroken family are devastated but want to do right by this gorgeous boy.

The information below is from his family.

We are absolutely heartbroken to be writing this message, and this is a decision we are not making lightly in any way.

Unfortunately, our family circumstances have changed significantly and we are no longer able to give Ludo (who came to us as Rex from your rescue) the time, stability, and attention that he truly needs and deserves.

We are also now in a position where we must sell our home and are uncertain what type of accommodation we will be moving into.

We do not currently have a time frame for this but we will keep you updated, as we want to work with you to ensure that he gets has the most smooth transition to a new forever home which is perfect for him.

This is something we never imagined we would have to do, and as a family we are devastated that we are in this position.

This is absolutely no fault of Ludo’s — he is a beautiful dog inside and out.

We want to give you as full and honest a picture of Ludo as possible to help find him the best possible forever home.

Health & care:

  • His vaccinations, flea treatment, and worming are all fully up to date.

  • He is toilet trained, a healthy weight, and in great overall health.

  • He enjoys going to the vets and being groomed (showering, brushing, etc.).

Training & routine:

  • He attends weekly training sessions at Barking Mad Dog Training (1.5 hours every Saturday morning) and is responding very well.

  • He responds well to commands including sit, paw, down, look, heel (when walking), and stay/wait (for food and at the kerb before crossing the road).

  • He is fed only on his morning and afternoon walks using a figure-of-8 lead, and now walks well with consistent reminders.

  • He walks between 1.5–2 hours every day and really enjoys long walks, especially in the woods where he can explore lots of different smells.

  • Not overly keen on cold or wet weather, but will still walk fine.

Temperament & personality:

  • He is very intelligent and picks up new skills quickly.

  • He has a lovely, gentle temperament with a playful and funny personality — he truly makes us laugh every day.

  • Loves cuddles and especially enjoys being wrapped in a blanket, often fully covered while snoozing on your lap.

  • He relaxes and naps for much of the day and enjoys sitting at the window watching the world go by (especially birds). He may cry if cats walk past but rarely barks and doesn’t bark much in general.

  • He enjoys being in the woods and at the beach.

With people and other animals:

  • He is good with other dogs and great with children (our children are 3 and 5).

  • However, we feel he would be best suited to a home with no children or other dogs, with someone who can give him lots of attention and be at home during the day.

  • It would still benefit him to regularly socialise with other dogs and children where possible.

  • He can be anxious in new environments and around new people and may bark briefly, particularly at men, but this usually lasts only a minute or two and he settles easily with reassurance.

Play & behaviour:

  • He has learned to play nicely and enjoys tug of war.

  • He is making progress with fetch and drop (not yet mastered).

  • He adjusts his strength when playing with children and is gentle with them.

  • He can be needy and does not like to share attention — he will happily squeeze himself into the smallest gap on the sofa just to be in the middle of everyone.

Challenges we are working on:

  • Opening doors.

  • Putting paws on tables or sides to try to take food.

  • Recall is good indoors and at training, but he cannot be trusted off-lead due to strong prey and scent drive (especially cats and squirrels).

  • When anxious or over-excited he may bounce, bark, and occasionally jump up, sometimes grabbing clothing.

  • He is escape-driven and needs locked doors and gates and a high, secure garden wall or fence (at least 5ft).

  • Still shows cheeky puppy behaviour but has never chewed anything and is generally very well behaved.

Ideal home:We truly believe Ludo would thrive with a couple or individual who is experienced with bully breeds and can give him their whole heart, soul, love, and attention.

He needs a secure attachment with someone who can be home regularly, who is kind and patient but also firm and clear with boundaries, and who will continue his training to a high standard.

He needs someone who will put him first, just as he deserves.

When we first rescued Ludo, it took him around 3–4 weeks to settle and begin eating properly, but he quickly became a deeply loved and comfortable member of our family.

Items included:Ludo will come with his bowls, crate, toys, jumpers/coat, leads, and bed.

We cannot express enough how distraught we are as a family to be in this position.
